Description:

"Meet Betsy.    Betsy is a 3 year old purebred German Shepherd with a lot of typical breed traits.   She is very vocal, needs lots of physical and mental stimulation, doesn't allow cats or small dogs in her home, and is particular about her bigger doggie friends.  She seems to be most compatible with young dogs that are submissive in nature and a touch smaller than her.   Betsy was kept as mainly an outdoor dog so when she arrived to our rescue, we learned that she was not well socialized with people or dogs and she was not housetrained.   The housetraining issue was due largely to her medical condition -- explained in detail below.  At this time, Betsy is about 98% housetrained.  She will still have a very rare accident in the house.  She is a very affectionate dog once she warms up to you.  Absolutely loves to smother you in kisses, likes to cuddle and be right next you, loves to go for walks.   Betsy is very shy upon first meeting people.  She quickly warms up and offers up her belly for rubbing.

Betsy also has a medical issue that will need to be managed for her lifetime.  She has been diagnosed with EPI --  Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency.   This means her pancreas does not produce the required enzymes need for her food to be digested.   Without medication with each meal, she would have severe diarrhea and lose weight very quickly.  At this time, Betsy is very stable on her current food and enzymes.   The cost of the enzymes is approx. $90 per month.   Due to the on-going cost associated with her EPI, her adoption fee has been waived.   Potential adopters will still be fully screened as all of our adopters are.  If you would like to meet Betsy, please complete an application today!"

Thank you for taking the time to read about Betsy.

Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the shoulder blades and are another form of identification should the animal get lost. The microchips are registered to  Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue. The adopter's information is added once the adoption is complete. The adopter is responsible for a $19.99/Year registration fee or a $69.00/Lifetime registration fee to change information.  Dogs and Cats still need to have collar with tags should they get lost.
