It takes a lot to survive on the streets. Athena was found on the side of the road in a neighborhood in Detroit eating trash. She was fearful at first but wagged her tail when one of our fosters called to her and approached once the treats came out. Once she realized that she was safe with her new friend, she rolled over and asked for some belly rubs. This was the perfect moment to put a collar and leash on her, and once leashed she happily walked over to the car and hopped in. She sat calmy and curled up into a ball, starting to fall asleep. Detroit Animal Control did not have enough space for her and were going to have to euthanize her, so we placed her with a foster family in Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue. She was clearly on the streets for a while and is extremely malnourished, and has a bit of mange. We are getting her vet care and working on a treatment plan. She is a super sweet and submissive girl who is so ready to come out of her shell and get the love she deserves. She is looking for a long-term foster home, or an extremely patient adoptive family to help her build her strength and trust.
