Description:

Meet Axel!  Axel is a 5 ½ mo. old Shepherd/Rottweiler mix (best guess).  He’s approximately 40 pounds and extremely sweet natured and mature beyond his age.  He’s completely potty trained, good with all people (children and adults), good with all the dogs he’s come into contact with.  He’s very respectful of the house.  So far he hasn’t been destructive or got into anything that he shouldn’t. He tried to counter-serf one time, but he takes direction very well.  He understands a very stern “Axel, NO” and will focus his attention on you.  Then you can easily redirect him with an appropriate activity, such as a toy or affection.

Axel has a lot of puppy energy and he will be a large dog.  His only downfall is he doesn’t realize his strength.  As with all puppies, he likes to play and gets a little rough with his foster sister and brother (canines) at times.  This is not malicious, but rather not having awareness of his strength and size.

Axel is highly trainable.  He learned stairs in one day and the invisible fence with one session.  He’s great in the crate as long as he’s not alone in the room and locked up.  He has a big appetite and should be supervised during feeding if there ae multiple dogs in the house, because he eats quickly and will meander over to check out what the other dogs are eating.  He isn’t a fan of being crated with his food, he won’t eat but will whine to get out and be with the other dogs.  With that said, he is good in the crate overnight (with others in the room) and when I leave the house, I  crate him and leave in a room with the other dogs.  He does not try to break out.

He really is an exceptionally good puppy, probably the easiest I’ve had.

Axel will make a wonderful addition to any household, but I don’t recommend a home with small children (due to his size, strength and energy) and if you’re working people and out of the house often, I do recommend he not be the only pet. As with all working breeds, he will require regular exercise.

HDDCR requires a spay/neuter contract by the adopter if puppies and kittens in our care are too young for sterilization. This is a form the adopter signs at the time of adoption, confirming that they will get the pet spayed/neutered by a certain date. We will hold a $50 deposit on top of the adoption fee until we receive proof from a veterinarian that the dog was spayed/neutered. The $50 deposit will then be returned to the adopter.

Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the shoulder blades and are another form of identification should the animal get lost. The microchips are registered to    Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue. The adopter's information is added once the adoption is complete. The adopter is responsible for a    $19.99/Year registration fee or a $45.00/Lifetime registration fee    to change information.   Dogs and Cats still need to have collar with tags should they get lost.
