Description:

Meet Maple! Maple is an eight week old Australian Cattle Dog Cross, but she looks more like a tri-color beagle/labbie mix. She loves snuggling, and would love to be your velcro pup.

As you can tell from her name, she is sweet as can be with an assertive flavor that is all her own.

Maple is looking for an active family or individual to call her own.  She has a softer side than her littermates, and could be an excellent pup for a person who has not owned a dog before.
Another pup of the opposite sex would make her life even more awesome but a bunch of adoring humans would also be cool.

Cattle dogs are known to nip and herd (hey, that is what they were bred to do) so are not suitable for children under seven.
Or children older than that, if they cannot follow instructions not to trigger the herding instinct.
Maple doesn’t seem to be as interested in herding as her siblings, but it’s in there, so be aware.

Maple is not potty trained, but she is using a litterbox as it is too cold outside. She likes to be clean and is usually good about using it. You will need to train her to go outside once adopted.
Maple is used to being in a crate and ex-pen.  She will likely become an athletic dog, and should wind up being about 45-55 pounds full grown.

Her current hobbies are digging, chewing, eating and barking for attention. Not necessarily in that order. Maple will need appropriate chew toys (no stuffies for this one! Kongs rule!) until at LEAST she is through her puppy stage.

She loves to please, and is a sensitive girl at heart. She would do best in a positive motivational obedience course to help her be the best pup she can be. NO choke chains, prong collars, shock collars for this one!

Bottom line:  If you have older, respectful children, a fenced in yard (no electronic fences) and love the outdoors in all kinds of weather, this dog is for you!
If you live in a condo with a small fenced space for her to potty and are a marathon runner, that might work. But, remember, we don’t know how big she will get, so a place with a size limit on dogs would not work.
Apartment dwellers, sorry to say, this girl is likely not for you. Exceptions may be made if you are a marathon runner or a family of marathon runners, but this girl may grow too large for most apartment weight limits.
Maple can almost climb a 36" pen  therefore she will require a fully fenced in yard (not partial) of at least 4ft. A privacy fence would be best.

Did I mention that this girl is also wicked smart?  Remember that it’s your fault for not putting the butter in the fridge when it goes missing from the counter….
If Maple sounds like the right match for you, send in your application!

HDDCR requires a spay/neuter contract by the adopter if puppies and kittens in our care are too young for sterilization. This is a form the adopter signs at the time of adoption, confirming that they will get the pet spayed/neutered by a certain date. We will hold a $50 deposit on top of the adoption fee until we receive proof from a veterinarian that the dog was spayed/neutered. The $50 deposit will then be returned to the adopter.

Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the shoulder blades and are another form of identification should the animal get lost. The microchips are registered to    Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue. The adopter's information is added once the adoption is complete. The adopter is responsible for a    $19.99/Year registration fee or a $45.00/Lifetime registration fee    to change information.   Dogs and Cats still need to have collar with tags should they get lost.
