Description:
Emerson is a sweet male Golden Retreiver Mix pup who is super smart and very gentle. Both he and his sister have the cutest little underbite, so perhaps there is a bit of Boxer in the mix? He is a bit larger than his sister, Ember and we estimate he will be 55 to 60 pounds when he is full grown. Emerson had a very rough start in life and is looking for a home that will commit to taking him out to explore everything he has missed out on. His foster home has started his socialization to take both pups on at least one outing per day. Emerson loves to snuggle and play with humans. Emerson is fine in a crate or ex-pen. He does not seem to be a power chewer, or chew on inappropriate things, so the puppy chew phase is likely over. Emerson does seem very curious and athletic, so as with any puppy, a watchful eye is recommended. Emerson is a bit shy right now when meeting new people and in new environments, but that is rapidly changing. Like Ember, Emerson loves to explore, and when introduced properly to new things, he quickly becomes enthusiastic and playful. He is super gentle with his mouth, and would do well with older, respectful children who can follow instructions (ages eight and older). He was a champ at the vet, and very brave for his exam. He has learned to wear a collar and is doing well on walks on a short leash. He is very easy to handle and submissive. Emerson does not have a mean bone his body, and is young enough to learn to co-exist with indoor kitties, perhaps. We do not have indoor cats, but he has not seemed to have much interest in our dog savvy outdoor cats or chickens (safely fenced). Another dog in the home would be a bonus, and he should be fine with all types, young and old, big and little. Oddly enough, Ember seems to be dominant in their sibling relationship, so a female sibling could be the best match for him. Emerson is not house trained, but is learning and likes to keep his area clean, so this should be a snap in his new home. Emerson does not know any commands yet. He is a very soft pup that needs positive motivational training, and a supportive adult presence to help shape him into the best dog he can be. He will need to be encouraged to explore new things and as have as many positive experiences as soon as possible. No harsh training methods, no prong or choke collars. No electronic collars or fencing. A physical fenced area will be required, no tie outs please. Emerson will need regular grooming to keep his long fur in top shape. He was treated for a skin issue, and is now ready for adoption. Emerson is moderately active, with spurts of puppy play energy, and will need regular walks or romps at least once a day to keep him at his best. If this loving pup with a huge heart sounds like a match for you, send in your application today! HDDCR requires a spay/neuter contract by the adopter if puppies and kittens in our care are too young for sterilization. This is a form the adopter signs at the time of adoption, confirming that they will get the pet spayed/neutered by a certain date. We will hold a $50 deposit on top of the adoption fee until we receive proof from a veterinarian that the dog was spayed/neutered. The $50 deposit will then be returned to the adopter.
