Volunteer Application

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue (HDDCR)!  Our organization could not exist without volunteers.  As a private, nonprofit organization, we rely on the assistance of caring and hard-working volunteers in all our our programs.

Please complete the Volunteer Application and select the volunteer activities that most interest you.  Once your application is submitted a volunteer will make contact with you to assist you in the rest of the process.

We have the following volunteer roles available, please read the descriptions and pick which ones you are interested in. Additionally, if you have talents/skills/interests that are not described here which could help us, please let us know of those as well. All of these positions are supported by long-term HDDCR volunteers to help you get comfortable, we are always here to help with any questions. 

  • Foster Animals: Provide in-home care for our animals until adoption. This includes taking your foster animals to adoption events, vet appts., meet-n-greets, and applicant home visits. Keep your foster's information up-to-date to accurately reflect their personality. Food and supplies can be provided by HDCCR.
  • Transporting Animals: Pick up animals from shelters or help transport animals to/from adoption events, vet appts., foster homes, etc. Specifically, we pull animals from Toledo, OH shelters and this transport occurs on Thursday evenings. If you can be a dependable driver for this timeframe, please let us know!
  • Host Adoption Events: Host an event including organizing, maintaining contact with event location management, setting up/breaking down, coordinating volunteer help, and updating event attendance. Must be comfortable interacting with the general public and answering questions about HDDCR and its programs. These usually occur once per month, other volunteers will assist you as well. 
  • Adoption Event Support: Assist the adoption event host, transport animals to/from the event, walk dogs during the event, set up/clean up at the event.
  • Fundraising: Work with the Fundraising Team to develop ideas and organize/host fundraising events. Solicit donations for silent auctions and secure business sponsorships. 
  • Cat Room Help: Assist with the care of our cats that are housed in either Livonia or Belleville pet stores. This can be whenever you are available during the pet store's open hours. This includes spending time with them to learn about their personalities/behaviors, feeding and cleaning, taking photos, and transporting to/from events or vet appts.
  • Administrative Support/Record Keeping: Complete vet checks which involve contacting vets to verify records during normal business hours. Process adoption contracts, record keeping, monitoring/answering general info email account, uploading documents - this is all done online and when you are available. 
  • Mailing of Preventative Medications: We provide flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative to all animals in our care. We need someone who can track the animals on a spreadsheet and mail out medications monthly to their fosters. Postage cost is covered by HDDCR. 
  • Home Visits: Visit prospective adopters' homes to complete a home visit check, gather and report information about potential adopters, answer questions about HDDCR's adoption process. You are able to choose the locations you are willing to travel to. This role requires pre-training.  
  • Post-Adoption Services: Make follow-up phone calls with adopters after they have adopted from us to ensure everything is going well and offering assistance if needed. Also, making follow-up emails/phone calls to adopters to procure proof of spay/neuters completed post-adoption as required in our adoption contracts.
